Ethics Policy

How we handle independence, sources, and the pressures that come with them.

Conflicts of interest

Contributors are expected to avoid financial or personal conflicts with the subjects they cover, and to disclose any that cannot be avoided. Relevant financial interests are declared to editors.

Gifts and incentives

We do not accept gifts, payments, or incentives in exchange for coverage or a particular editorial conclusion.

Sources and attribution

We prefer named, on-the-record sources. Anonymous sourcing is used sparingly, only when the information is important and cannot be obtained otherwise, and with editorial review.

Plagiarism and fabrication

Plagiarism and fabrication are not tolerated. Words and reporting that originate elsewhere are credited.

Independence

Commercial and promotional interests do not dictate editorial judgment. When a relationship is relevant to a story, we disclose it.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and note material changes. See our Corrections Policy.
